Teeth Bonding Katy, TX
In the world of dentistry, bonding is also referred to as dental bonding or teeth bonding. It is a cosmetic dental procedure targeted toward the repair of damaged teeth. To achieve this, the damaged areas of teeth are covered with a tooth-colored composite resin made from tooth-colored filling materials.
Wilson Dentistry recommends this cosmetic dental procedure if your teeth have minimal damage that is not easily noticeable. When the damage is beyond a few fragments, we suggest other options depending on your needs, such as veneers and crowns.
When Is Teeth Bonding Needed?
There are a number of reasons why dental bonding may be needed. For example, if you would like to change how your teeth look and prevent those minor cracks from expanding into deeper cracks, which could affect the nerve attached to your teeth or the root canal. It is also necessary when the root and gum of your teeth need protection from exposure to bacteria, breakage, and bleeding. If your tooth is chipped by a fragment or slightly cracked, dental bonding may also be recommended. Perhaps you have gaps in your teeth or other cosmetic or aesthetic reasons (such as teeth discoloration). Our dentist will help you correct these anomalies through bonding.
The Dental Bonding Process
If you believe you require dental bonding, you will first need to book an appointment with our team to see if your teeth fit the requirements. Our dental professionals will determine whether you need bonding, a dental veneer procedure, or other types of cosmetic dental procedures.
We will then decide which color of the composite resin will be applied on your tooth/teeth. This decision is aided by a shade guide. The composite resin’s color will match the color of your teeth.
Next, the surface of the tooth will be roughened with a conditioning liquid to ensure that the dental bond adheres to your teeth when it is placed on them. The application of the composite resin is then placed over the bonding agent liquid. It is after this application that we will shape your teeth as required, and harden the composite resin that was applied using an ultraviolet light.
After Service for Dental Bonding
Dental bonding is typically done at our office. It requires at least two appointments. The first appointment is to determine the cosmetic dental procedure you require, and the second appointment is for the bonding procedure.
At the end of the dental bonding procedure, certain steps are to be taken to ensure durability. Hard food and candy should be avoided as much as possible. Regular dental cleanings should be done twice a year, preferably once every six months. Brushing of the teeth should be done twice daily, and flossing should occur once per day. Liquids which can cause stains (such as coffee) should be avoided as well. We will go over all of the instructions before you leave our office.
