Dental veneers, often referred to simply as veneers, are thin tooth coverings used to enhance appearance and aesthetics. Each veneer is molded to fit each individual tooth, and can cover any deformed teeth. Wilson Dentistry custom-makes different types of veneers for varying specifications.
Uses of Dental Veneers
Veneers can be used to assist a variety of cosmetic concerns such as: chipped or crooked teeth, staining, and uneven spacing or sizing. Although many benefits of veneers coincide with crowns, there is a strict difference between the two. Veneers cover the front of the tooth, and crowns encompass the entire tooth.
A great benefit of opting for veneers is the aesthetics of a confident, beautiful smile. Adopting a confident smile is critical for first impressions. A second benefit is that by utilizing these coverings, you can achieve a whiter smile. Veneers can be placed over a single tooth or a set of teeth. By having veneers placed on your teeth, these caps can cover unwanted gaps and spaces.
Types of Teeth Veneers
Our team of dental experts will assist you in picking the right type of veneer for you. It is important to know the two types of veneers we offer which include composite resin, and porcelain. Composite resin veneers are produced from tooth-colored filling materials, whereas porcelain is crafted from ceramic materials into thin shells.
There are pros and cons to both veneer types. On one side of the spectrum, composite resin veneers cost less than porcelain and require a single visit to the dentist. Composite resin can also be easily fixed if damage occurs. However, porcelain veneers are stronger and more durable. They are also not easily stained.
How Are Dental Veneers Placed?
Placing veneers on the teeth entails an attentive process. The first step is to acquire molds of the tooth/teeth you wish to cover. These molds will be produced within one to two weeks. The second step is to schedule your next appointment to have the veneers placed. Thirdly, your teeth will be comprehensively cleaned by our team. Our cleaning will ensure the extermination of all bacteria within the parameters of your teeth. Next, a rough texture is created with our grinding tool on the tooth/teeth that requires the veneer(s). Lastly, we will diligently place the veneers on your teeth using UV light to harden the dental cement, thus binding the veneers to your teeth.
How Long Does a Dental Veneer Last?
Veneers are placed on the tooth/teeth to last a period of seven to fifteen years. Seven years is the minimum timeframe, while fifteen years (a decade and half) is the maximum time frame after which the veneers will need to be replaced by a dentist. How a patient cares for their veneers plays a large role in their longevity. While you can eat almost anything, you will be instructed to take reasonable precautions because veneers are not indestructible.
